Mission

The purpose of the Coastal Master Naturalist Association is to promote awareness and citizen stewardship for South Carolina's natural resources through science-based education and community service, in accordance with the South Carolina Master Naturalist Program coordinated by Clemson University. The Coastal Master Naturalists Association is a nonprofit corporation chartered by the South Carolina Secretary of State.


The Association provides members with opportunities for continuing education and volunteer service. Coastal Master Naturalist Association meets a minimum of six times annually for field trips or other educational programs and maintains a directory of organizations seeking volunteers.

South Carolina Master Naturalist Program

The South Carolina Master Naturalists are a statewide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. Interested persons become Master Naturalists through training and volunteer service. See www.clemson.edu/public/naturalist for more information about the statewide program and training host sites.

How to Become a Member

Graduates of the SC Master Naturalist Program presented by Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission who are Master Naturalists in good standing are eligible for membership. Graduates of programs in other areas of the state are eligible after completing eight hours advance training relevant to the Association area.
